Howdy folks...I have a 30 gallon aquarium with 4 3" Oscars and 4 - 2" cichlids and a Rope Fish. I recently planted some various plants and have noticed a significant decrease in the water clarity. I feed various foods (pellets, flake, live fish, krill, dried shrimp) and have the standard filter that comes with the tank as well as a powerhead. What is causing the cloudiness? Thanks for the help.

The tank has been up for about two weeks and was fine at first. You'll have to excuse my ignorance...but what do you mean "water parameters"??? I'm assuming you mean water tests of which I've conducted none. Where can I get the test kits? I am new at this and my wife and 4 year old love the fish. We've had a ten gallon for a couple of years and have been very successful with it. THanks for any help you can give.

sounds to me like your definetly overstocked. tose fish are very messy, and id say your lacking in filtration. you might wanna get a bigger tank for those fish also (125gal or so) or your other option would be to give/sell some of them to your LFS. thats my 2 cents :dance

Yes, by water parameters I mean from a test kit.
Test kits can be purchased from any Pet store that sells fish.
Also, some places will test your water for you if you bring in a water sample.
So, are you cycling with fish then?
I noticed when I did a cycle a couple years ago with fish my water went cloudy (kind of milky coloured) for about 3 days, then it was crystal clear.
I'd suggest testing the water, though.

Well, some suggest that cycling should be done before you even add fish. This is because the cycling process can be stressful and even fatal to fish.
I suggest checking out the thread under the freshwater newbie forum titled "Cycle".

Yep, just got done reading that...Geez, wish I would have prior to introducing the fish...thanks for your help on this. I will get the water tested and cycle as carefully as possible. Thanks again.
