well I have a 30 gallon fish tank which currently has 3 panda corys, 2 pictus cats, 1 upsidedown cat, 1 pleco, and 1 betta. Wondering if I should just leave it at that? Get some more? Add different fish? Or take some back and get others? So give the suggestions You know you want to.

Hi,

What kind of pleco? Because some get way to big for a 30 gallon. I think you should get two more Cories (the bigger the group, the better for Cories :)) and six Zebra Danios.

Happy fish keeping and goo luck with your tank!

Common pleco... And ya I was thinking of adding more corys its fun to watch them play and chase each other. Would zebras pick on my Betta? although he is moving to a different tank soon... And would my pictus eat them? *wouldn't want that to happen* although my pictus used to be housed with guppies and not one got ate. :cool2: Peaceful predators.

Hi,

I don't think the Zebras would pick on your betta, if you get atleast six of them so they keep eachother busy. They are great fish and never stop moving!

I don't know if you know this, but Common Plecos get way, way to big for a 30 gallon tank.

I don't think your Pictus can catch them, there just too fast. My fast and mean Three-Spot Gourami trys to catch them, but they do circles around him and leave him in the bubbles :).

common plecos get to be around 24" long- way to big for a 30 gallon, and they are the dirtiest tropical fish out there for their size.

as for stocking, the only potential problems you could ahve are between the pictus and the corydoras, and that is because they occupy the same space and compete for the same food.

zebras as suggested will work great.

Common pleco

That alone overstocks your tank, rather severely...

As for zebra danios... I've had them with bettas and gouramis for years without them being even slightly nippy, then one day that completely changed, nipping at the betta almost everytime they went by (that wasn't allowed for long...). So I can't give you a yes or no answer here. Others have had them be nippy, while seemingly just as many state that they don't nip at all.

Well I did plan on moving the pleco into my soon to be done indoor pond. Thanks for the pleco to big for tank info though. I was wonder if there is a pleco small enough for a 30 gal tank? I was thinking of just getting an apple snail for handling the algae.. they do eat algae right? lol And my pictus have been with my corys for a while now and no issues there... There two of the nicest fish i have ever seen ... my upside down cat actually tags along and swims and plays with them.

Apple snails will eat algae, just you might want too make sure you get mystery snails not the giant apple's, as the giants wil eat any live plants and get to be the size of a baseball...

There's many plecos that will stay small enough for your tank, just you'll probably have to look for them though. One that I can think of right now that I know eats algae is the bristle nose pleco.

Ah yes bristle nose forgot about them. And ouch I though mystery snails would eat my plants but you say the apple will. Guess mystery snail it is. Want to here a funny story about a mystery snail? well I had one in a ten gallon tank once.. it got really big... well it hadn't moved from one spot for like a month so I thought it had died... So I took it out of the tank and set it on the stand next to it for about a month... Well one day for some odd reason I decided to drop it back in the tank for decoration and to my surprise it was alive and moving I guess they can hold water in there shells with them for a long time.

could try a clown pleco, or a related species with white markings instead of brown. Nearly the same both stay relatively small
