Hello! I have a 30 gallon hex tank I used about 4 years ago and I am thinking of using it again. I need some refreshing on fish keeping though lol.

Anyway I visited this forum often when I first got into fish keeping and I remember people saying that with a hex tank it rules out a lot of fish. I cant decide if I want to do a freshwater community or maybe just a pair of chiclids.

Just looking for some ideas : )
Thanks!

I'd be wary of keeping anything other than small dwarf cichs in there. The issue with hex tanks come from the relatively small floor space/surface area for the volume of water. There are very few fish that actually utilize the vertical space in a hex tank. If it were my tank to stock, i'd go with a pair of apisto borellii, since they're comparatively peaceful for the group, guppies or endlers for visual interest, and maybe a betta or dwarf gourami (stick with just one) for the surface.

Back when I used to come to this webiste before they had a library of differen't fish. Does anyone know if that is still on this website anywhere? It would show you a picture, Tell you temperatures, Temperments and size.

I used to have a 30g Hex. I made it a Tanganyikan cichlid tank. It worked great and fish did very well for many years.
