i have a 30 gallon hex aquarium and want to grow more plants i have 50 watts and i am growing onion bulb and aponogeton i want to*upgrade my lighting so i can grow some higher light plants

i am thinking of the coralife 96w quad fixture is that ok would you buy that fixture for that tank is that enough watts

could i grow high light plants

How tall is the tank?

do most people vacuum planted tanks or no

Do you mean with the siphon while doing water changes? I do. I stir the water a bit to loosen the debris and then let the siphon pick it up.

Well, there's two major issues to overcome when planting a hex tank.

One: The depth, light has a hard time penetrating deep water, at 23" you are right at the cusp of what is considered the deepest you want to go with a planted (unless you use HQI or alot of tubes). So you will have 3.2wpg, but might want to consider that a little less due to the depth if your planning to use a carpet-type plant.
And remember lighting is only one component of what you need to grow plants, nutrients and CO2 also need to be added.

Two: Aquascaping a hex is kinda hard (sure someone will disagree). But a hex is made to be viewed from multiple sides, but the footprint is kinda small. Thus using forground, midground, and background plants to create a slope from front to back is kinda hard.

But that being said, I have seen alot of nice planted hex tanks, just to get them to look nicly planted is a bit of a feat.
