This is just in the idea phase, but I've always wanted a tank with angelfish, but since I also have neons I'd need to set up an independent tank. I've got a 30tall sittin around, and that would be sufficient for a pair of angels with some cories, so I've been doing some thinking. This thinking has boiled down to the following:

29gal tall tank - have it
stand for 29gal tall tank - $80
Eheim Canister 2213-37 - $80
Heater - Have
HOB - Have
Air Pump and Stone - $20(Not needed)
30in Light and T8 bulb - $45(Have spare bulb at home)

Stocking would be:
2X Assorted Veil Angelfish - $12
4X Skunk Cory - $45

Now, the big questions:

1) Would the angels eat or harm the cories?
2) Will the cories eat any eggs the angels lay?
3) What else can go in this tank without overstocking it?
4) What plants do you recommend?
5a) How likely is it the angels will be male and female?
5b) How likely is it they will get along if male/female?
5c) How likely is it they will get along is same gender?
6) Are there any shrimp that can go with angels and cories? (Like bamboo, amano, ext)

If I decide to go through with this, I'll post a build thread when I get the stand.

1. The angels will not bug the cories except when breeding.

2. I would not expect the cories to grab any eggs since the angels defend them very closely.

3. You can easily add a small school of rummynose tetras (8-10).

4.Plants go with crypts and amazon swords.

5. If you're only getting 2 angels your chances of getting a pair are slim to none without knowing that they are a breeding pair.
They should get along just fine, but to better your chances of breeding I would either invest in a proven breeding pair or get 6 angels and let them pair off (this can take a while but can provide multiple pairs).

6. I would think some larger shrimp/crays could, but they may pick on the fish.

1 - thanks :)
2 - Well, thats good and bad (doesn't want to be swamped with fry).
3 - Won't the angles eat the rummynoses? Thats why I can't have neons with them.
4 - It says they need iron, is that like *need* need or just for better health?
5 - What do I do with the extras? I only want one pair.
6 - Okay, thanks.

3 - rummynose are typically left alone since they are larger than neons. I have never had an issue with keeping angels with them.
4 - an iron supplement is needed for swords as well as magnesium. I would get epsom salt and flourish iron.
5 - breeding pairs of angels (or angels in general) are always in demand. You can trade them in at your LFS or sell them here or craigslist.

3 - Well, according to LiveAquaria, both Neons and Rummynoses top out a 2in, but I'm inclined to believe you that they are larger then neons. I figure it's worth a shot, if some go missing I'll know the culprit and can just move them to the 75gal tank.
4 - Okay, thanks.
5 - So I'll have no trouble selling them off, awesome :D Now I just need to figure out the shipping part lol. Oh, but actually... if I got 6, would they be okay in a 30tall while they paired off, or am I asking to be screwed?

You could get a drill and make a stand for the 29g for like $40~ too :)

I can only answer a few of your questions, I have 4 Angels of mixed sex in my 40 gallon with 3 killis, 1 discus, 6 dwarf cories. I do not have any problems at all, however none of the angels have paired off into couples yet, so I cannot comment on the egg situation. I also have a dwarf frog in the tank. I feed them a mixture of mysis shrimp and blood worms.

Thanks for the replies. I'm currently working on the most important factor: convincing my mom that a pair of breeding angles would be a nice addition to my tanks in the basement. Wish me luck!
