Hello.

I am currently cycling my 30 gallon aquarium with 4 harlequin rasboras. I recently came up with the idea of putting my male betta in it once it cycles (he has been in a gallon bowl for 6 months or so) so he can have more space. I also thought that maybe I could add a couple of female bettas as well. Will this work? Will the Male Betta be too aggressive to be with females in this tank? Can Bettas be housed successfully with rasboras?

Here's what I had in mind for the tank:
(1) Male Betta
(2) Female Bettas
(6) Harlequin Rasboras
(4) Freshwater Clams
(10) Ghost Shrimp
(1) "Garra Pingi Pingi "

I'm also not sure if the Garra Pingi Pingi would be compatible. This site says it's "peaceful" but i'm not 100% positive.

I've had no problem with bettas and harlequin rasboras together -- they basically ignored each other.

Multiple bettas sometimes works. But even the females can be quite pugnacious, particularly if they were not raised together in the same tank... there's been a definite pecking order every time I've tried it, complete with fin damage and some females spending their time hiding. Not what I wanted. My friend who tried a male plus harem in the same size tank as yours experienced the male selecting one female and then setting out to annhilate the rejects.

Lots of dense planting, tunnels or other hiding places would help in any case.

Thanks for your replies...maybe one female will be better?

NJ Devils Fan, if you want a Garra Pingi Pingi, Aquarium Fish.net has them for sale. Somewhat expensive but not too bad (it says $13.50 but when added to your cart, it says $20).

Personally, I've decided not to get the "Garra Pingi Pingi"...I just needed an algae eater. I think Amanos may be a better choice.
