im thinking of getting a clown knife and woundering if 300 gallon tank would be big enough? also what would be good tank mates and not food. any suggestions? thanks
You could get a clown knife in a 300 (I'm assuming its 48x48x25?). They rarely get over 24" in aquaria.
For tankmates, pretty much anything large enough not to get eaten (such as bichirs) and I wouldn't do anything too nippy (I'm not sure if they'd pick at the undulating fin on the bottom of the fish.)
im looking at a couple of differnt 300gallon tanks i dont know what is better width or heigth and i heard alot about them getting up to 3-3 1/2 feet and the do eat alot ive got breeders starting before i get one my local fish store gets good sized ones all the time from people who buy them without knowing what they are.
Tank width is much more important than height when dealing with large fish.
Get the widest and longest tank. The largest picture of a clown knife in a home aquaria was ~24-26", not sure because people always incorrectly eyeball the size of their fish.
spartan i will see if i can dig up the info and pics again so you can have a look ive even found recipes for them because parts of the world do eat them. thanks for the advice
how much were you spending on food and when did you adopt him/her back to the pet store. i think they are a pretty fish and my friends has a cool personality
I don't know exactly the cost of the food i fed it... but i sold it back at 8". I knew if i let it grow larger i would have a lot of trouble getting rid of it.
