300 gallon, clown knife

the guy that owns the lfs here has a nice 14-15" clown in one of his display tanks and he told me he grew it up to about 12" in a 29 gallon alone feeding mainly algae wafers.i dunno if this helps u any i had a clown knife that wouldnt eat anything so he met his maker after about 3 weeks. i like the fish but thru my experience i wont ever have another.

Right now I have a clown knife in my tank. I have a picture of the tank in my signature. total tank legnt is around 12 ft, so I think I still have some room for him.

These fish grow quite fast. I got mine at around 6" and 2 days ago I was able to measure him with a ruler and it's now 11" long. It all happened in a matter of 4 months.

In my tank, that clown doesn't bother other fish. He will only go after small enough fish that can be swallowed in a gulp. The biggest he ate was a 2" platy. He will also eat fish flakes that happen to get the bottom, tubifex worms and earthworms.

I hope you realize spartan had a serious point when he said he would have trouble getting rid of the clown at a larger size than 8 inches. those babies get to be over two feet (and yes they can achieve that size+ in home aquariums) but they get stunted and have shorter life spans because of it. In sport fishing they are called featherbacks, google some images to see the massive size!!!
I recommend a black ghostknife or even a ropefish or bichir- all still get fairly good size, look awesome, have funny personas and make great conversation pieces!!!

I have a Silver Arrowana. It's about 16 inches now. It would be a good tank mate with Clown knife. I also have african cichlids with the Arrowana, so my arrowan must move out to save the life of the african cichlids. If interested email me pseung@yahoo.com
I have both a clown and a black ghost knives and i can tell you that the clown does grow much faster than the bgk. I made a mistake of putting a pair of flower horn cichlids in (they where only 1 1\2 inches) the tank and they wrecked havoc on the both knives tails(mind you that the knives where 6 &1/2 inches. NO CICHLIDS WITH THE KNIVES PLEASE!!! The worst thing to see is a knife with a bitten up tail! :cool2:

Arrowana would be ok with Clown fish, but will swallow cichlids. I lose a few :mad2: Arrowana would not attack any fish that he think he cannot swallow
