I bought a 300g aquarium (8ft x 2ft x 2.5ft) from someone just recently and will pick it up this weekend. I just found out the glass brace that was originally part of it he had removed because it was blocking his light.

What can i do to brace this tank on the top? Not too comfortable with letting it stay as is without the brace as that is a lot of water to suddenly have come rushing out.

what do i do for a new brace?

get some glass cut at a glass ship and silicone it in.

When i bought my 100 gallon many many years ago, it too was missing the center peice...when i filled it up for the first time i freaked out as it was about half full and looked like it was goign to break(you would be VERY surprized how far glass will bend!) so i drained it and went to my local glass shop and had them cut me a peice of 1/2 inch thick glass 1 foot wide by the width of the tank. I took some aquarium safe silicone and gooped it into place using a pipe clamp to GENTLY squeeze the tank together to hold the glass in place. ITs been there for going on 5-6 years and its still holding rock solid. Just make sure you dont skimp on the silicone!!
