30gal Planted Tank Progress Thread

Wow!

nice tank, and I like the fry's!

Well, I regret to inform you all, That the parents did indeed eat the babies. :(
I thought I got lucky. I thought that I had actually had a pair of rams that wanted to raise them. At least the raised them for as long as they did.. I got lucky on that part. I guess I was just pushing my luck.. Next time I will know what to do and set up a fry tank.. Next time I will be more prepared. ;)
At least I still got my first experience with eggs and fry. :)

I think that the mom ate ALL the fry becuase I watched her eat the last 3 of them, and ever seince the fry have been gone, the male now trys to attack the female.
The male was always such a good dad, he would protect them all the time, the mom never took over to watch them like she should have. I had a hard time getting the male to eat becuase he was soo protective of the fry. The female was very stingy, only cared about herself, never really cared to take care of the fry.. I feel bad for the male.
I know I sound like a big fish dork.. But when your home most of the day, and constandly watching your fish, and learning their personalitys, you become attached..

I have now just lost over 40 fry.. :(
I can only hope now, that the male will stop picking on the female, and they "grove" once more.. ;)

I recommend dimming the lights, and playing some Barry White. :grinyes:

Wow, been a long time since I have done any kind of updating with this tank.... Long story short, I got a few more plants than whats in the last pic posted, and then ordered some dry ferts, got a scale and hooked up pressurized co2... All this thinking that everything was going to work out great... But I was horribly mistaken.... I practiced with the EI method, and things didn't seem to work out... I tried with what tests I had to make sure that things were still within a good range, and they were.... but yet somehow, most of my plants slowly but surely died...

My tank hit the pits, and had no clue why... I had went through many hardships just in the short time it has been so far. Though even through the bacteria blooms from the phosphates.. I have yet to meet ms. algae....

So, as for right now.... I got a few new plants, am going to try a different way of dosing ferts... and time will tell....

Below is a pic of BEFORE I traded in the Bio wheel for an Aqua Clear, and before ferts and pressurized CO2....

Ill try to update tomorrow what my tank currently looks like......
