No problem. Keep in mind that your tank is longer then mine and therefor has bigger footprint which allows you to add more fish then me, especially when it comes to Bottom Dwellers. (Just don't go crazy, lol)
You don't have to worry about me adding too many. I plan to run everything by you guys here in the forums before I do or buy anythings. And I plan setting everything, cycling, and then stocking slowly.
So, to get a general idea of some of the fish mentioned, I went and looked at an online store. I don't have any intentions of buying online, but I figured they'd have a larger list of fish than my LFS had on hand. They also have the prices, so I can get an idea of how much I'll be spending.
But I ran into a snag. A few of you have mentioned Dwarf Gourami and Rams, but do you mean a specific type? The online store has four types of Dwarf Gourami: Flame Dwarf Gourami, Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami, Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami, and just Dwarf Gourami. From what I can tell, they are all Dwarf Gourami, but are separated by coloring? And for the Rams, they have two types: Rams -German Blue, German Gold, and Electric Blue- and Bolivian Rams. I'm just concerned about getting the wrong type. And I'm assuming mixing is a bad idea. Like getting a Flame and a Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami, or a German Blue and Bolivian Ram?
Also, the profile of one of the fish said they were easily frightened, and didn't like loud noise. The 35 gallon tank is in my living room, and it's out of the way of traffic. But I have four dogs, three of which are 6 month old puppies, that run through that area to go outside. They wouldn't bother the tank, but two of the four are loud barkers -one of which howls-, and I'm concerned about scaring any potential fish. Will their barking bother my fish? Should I try to relocate the tank? -though I don't really have any other place to put it-

It was also mentioned here in the forums that Dwarf Gourami males will fight. So it would be best to only get one?
Also, andyjs mentioned Apistos. I haven't read up about them much, but it says they like their water a pH of 4.5. That would be near impossible to achieve, especially with other fish in the tank. And also, with any of the fish I'm looking into, I'm concerned about aggression.

Yeah, you don't want male dwarf gouramis together. You could do a trio, 1m 2f if you weren't doing rams. Personally I think the powder blue are the prettiest.
As far as rams, same idea, they're just different varieties. Generally I'm not a hue ram fan, but I just saw a gold ram for the first time last week, wow! I don't know much about apistos either, but my boss has a pair, and afaik he doesn't have a really low pH, as he has a good variety of tropicals in his tanks.
I wouldn't worry too much about the dogs really, my cats will go right up to my tank and try to get the fish through the glass, and it's never fazed them, neither does the yowling.

Okay, that's good to know. So with these types of fish, proper ratios are important.
And I'm glad I won't have to move the tank. It would be a really hassle trying to find another place for it.
