Hi y'all. I picked up a 35 gallon bowfront from someone on craiglist today, and ive thought about setting up a SW tank.

I need help decided on what to stock it with, but so far i have:

2 maroon clowns
1 yellowtail damsel
45 pounds of live rock
couple snails

anything else?

Oh, and how would i cycle the live rock in the tank?
 
if the live rock isnt cured you are going to need to cure it out of the tankin a bucket with a heater and a powerhead. then once it smells like the ocean and not death, it is safe to put in.
that list actualy seems to be a pretty good one. moroons do get rather large. i am assuming (hopeing) that the two you have bought were already a pair seeing how they are much much harder to pair than any other clown species?
maybe another small fish though if you keep up on matinence. what else do you like?
 
I didnt buy any of the fish yet.

after reading about maroons, they seem aggresive, and more expensive than normals. So i guess i'll stick with normals.
 
then taht makes it easy. add the uncured lr to the tank and let them both cycle together. lol
 
Is there anything else i need? My neighbor says that adding liquid calcium makes the live rock look nicer. Is this true? (Im trying to get to get a pinkish color to the live rock)
 
coraline is a calcerous algae, but you really arent goign to see that much of an increase as long as your Ca is in the acceptable range (400-440). also, lighting does have an affect on coraline growth
 
That sounds like a nice selection. The yellow tailed damsel should be cheap and hardy. I got mine for $3.50. They are fun to watch. All they want to do is eat (mine is always looking for food when I come by the tank) and sleep in rocks. They can be territorial though (I would recommend lots of spread out hiding places within rocks) and mine is a pain when it comes to spotfeeding the dusters. He will stalk my hand and nip at the tip of the dropper.
 
Which calcium supplement would you reccommend? Im REALLY trying to get a pink tinge to the live rock.

would you reccomend me getting any filtration?

how much lighting should i have?
 
purple up works well but i prefer just to balance out the calcium level in the tank using a buffer. Kent Tech-CB solutions A and B is what i use and it works great anything similar will get ur coralline growing well if the calcium levels are kept around 400ppm. just dont use B-ionic buffer system because it leaches out aluminum
