36 gallon fowlr redo progress

help!!!!! i have an ick invasion! ok im gonna do hypo, but i can only do it on my main tank as my qt, which i should have used but didnt, isnt big enough for all my fish. i have snails, hermits, and a shrimp in there plus live rock. is it ok do to hypo with live rock? i plan on getting all my snails out and all my hermits. although i was reading that snails and hermits can tolerate hype, while feather dusters and shrimp cant. What is my best course of action. I can put inverts in my qt no problem. How should I go about this? I was reading about something called greenex and read that it is reef safe, but i have used a supposed reef safe product before called ich attack that just caused a lot of red slime algae to grow and i dont need that again. What is the best course of action and how should i do it? please i need help.

im pretty sure tho that no inverts can survive it so all of them are going in qt while i do hypo on the main tank. my live rock was basically crap when i got it so i never had any hitchhikers other than a feather duster, so im gonna leave it in there. im gonna pick up a refractometer today and water for water changes.

ok well i changed my plan. I talked to the owner of my LFS. He told me that I should use Quick Cure or however it is spelled. He said Hypo doesnt always work because the salinity cannot raise higher or the ick wont die. what he recomended which he does is coppersafe, or quick cure. Since my coral beauty is sensitive to copper im doin the quick cure. Even though it takes a few days for that to work, im not taking chances, plus my main tank needs to go fallow long enough for the ick to die. now i have a 10 gallon aquarium. Is that okay to keep a clownfish, coral beauty, firefish, plus two small neon gobies? all my fish are small, but that would be overcrowding a bit. I am able to do water changes to keep ammonia, nitrites and nitrates down, but im worried about over crowding them. If i have to, i will set up another 10 gallon aquarium.

Today i put my fish in the qt. it was pretty rough because i had to take out all my live rock to get the fire fish, and then while acclmating he didnt look so good. he was on his side breathing very slow, and also since i couldnt find my plastic scooper thing, i had to resort to using a net and the clown and coral beauty got stuck and i feel really bad. the clown appears to be fine, the neon gobies are good but i havent seen one since i put it in. i also havet seen the firefish either. I do have a fake rock/cave thing in there for them so it could be hiding, im just nervous. the coral beauty has been hiding behind the rock but occasionally comes out. I hope everythingis ok becuase if not, im def done this time.

I think your LFS guy just wanted the few $$$ he made on the meds! And thats sad. Hydo lowers the SG of the water so the ich can't live. It goes waaaay down for a period of 6-8 weeks. How back is your ich and how healthy is the fish. thats the questions you should start with. If your fish is a healthy fish then you can use natural cures. Nutrition to boost the fishes immune. Things like garlic and vitamins top quality foods. There isn't a med you can buy that will cure marine ich. I have ich, I know there is ich in my tank. I just havent seen it on any of my fish in ages. I got a coral beauty a few months ago that had it when I got him, he was a rescue from a friend. He doesn't show signs anymore but I know that ich is all in my DT. I just keep my fish as healthy as possible. Also a good practice is to scout your fish at your LFS and watch him there for about two weeks or so and see what happens. One LFS here will not let you buy any fish that has not been in the store less than three weeks. They advertise a "drug free work zone" meaning they have never used any meds on anything ever. proper care and health are the key..

well so far so good. my fish are doing good. no sign of ich. the firefish is doing good. im now treating for bacterial infections just in case. im using that marine melafix stuff. I have used quick cure many times on freshwater fish and it always worked great with no ill effects. Had healthy fish after treatment. i did a lot of research into using garlic and it seems while it raises a fish's immune system, it doesn't really do anything during an ich infestation. The chemical in garlic gets filtered out by the liver before it even gets to where the parasite is, and if it does, the fish got way too much garlic and it could possibly harm the fish. Oh, and i trust my new lfs guy because he has been doing SW tanks and FW ponds for about 30 years, and he also didnt make $$$ off me at all for the meds. I already had the quick cure and coppersafe from my freshwater tanks. He was just giving me suggestions. He said Hypo is great, but you need to be on top of the sg and make quick adjustments, and need to watch the ph very closely. He said he prefers to use coppersafe or quick cure depending on whether or not the fish is copper sensitive.

my main tank is doing very well. My snails are great and laying eggs all over, my hermits are doing great. They are molting and taking up residence in new shells. The shrimp is misi=sing picking crap off the fish, but he is aslo doing very well. My macroalgae is growing out of my breeder net so i need to cut it back. After a few more weeks, right up to before i go on vacation, im putting my fish back into my main tank. I actually got my protein skimmer working good. My lfs guy siad that some of the cheaper venturi skimmers need a little extra power and he said is should use an air pump and turn it down to the lowest setting to give it just a little extra something. I used an old air pump and attached a little valve onto it. I havent seen it ever produce so much nasty looking foam. And i havent needed to adjust it. So everything is going good. Now I can devote some extra time to my 5 gallon fw and 100 gallon fw, and my huge koi pond.
