37 Gallon Discus Tank Thread with Pics

Good idea, but too late. My Anubias and bio-wheel will just have to process it! They've been acting fine, with the water change, the tank is infused with tons of microbubbles during water change that I did just before treatment, so I think they have plenty of oxygen. Your tank description in your signature sounds awesome, where can I see some pics?

So it's been 4 days since I've provided pics to show progress so here we go.

Have done 2 cycles of the Jungle Parasite Clear Tank Buddies as I stated I would, along with a water change and carbon tonight. Will take the carbon out in 24 hours. I don't see any change in the inhabitants at all after the treatment. I suppose even if all parasites are dead, it could take some time for appetites to improve and bulk-up to ensue. Blue Diamond is looking plump all over and color is slowly getting better, although he is still very shy. Turq is still really thin, not eating well, but is still boldly running the tank. The Turq is really the one I'm watching for medication effectiveness. I have my tank temp up to 91 now, all fish seem to be dealing with it fine.

Any thoughts on next steps or is it a wait and see time now?

Looks like some improvement...

They definitely look better than they initially did, I just went back to earlier photos. What I would do at this point is very, very slowly begin to lower your temperature down to 88 and maintain it there. Frozen bloodworms are like discus candy, slam them as often as you can with the frozen bloodworms, every few hours offer them some. Having full tummies, if they eat for you, will make them feel stronger faster and recover faster. Will also help push out any intestinal garbage that may be left from parasite treatment. Take note of their poop.....it should be dark and thick on bloodworms. Keep that water nice and clean, they need the minerals in the fresh water too.

Here are some updated pics from a few days ago, I will post some new ones tomorrow (lights already off tonight).

I answered my own question on the rummy-nose mating. They seem to repeat every 3-4 days and I have observed this during the morning feedings. Haven't seen any eggs as a result. After reading up, they may be sterile because my pH is not low enough.

I'm trying Jungle's Hole in the Head treatment that has Metro as the main active ingredient. I have dosed two of the recommended three times. I think this or the medication I used before just might be working. The Blue Diamond is definitely feeling good (he's fat, eating well and visibly growing). And the Turq, whom I've been most concerned about is eating more and not spitting food out much at all. He's swimming around with a fat belly and is losing the visible "temples". So we may be on the right track here. It's exciting to see them get healthy.

I wrote about the Turq bullying the BD and the Turq falling behind at feeding time as a result. Well, the effects are obvious now with the size difference between the two. And now the Turq is getting picked on being so small. I really think they're figuring it out and they are getting bigger and happier.

I fed them $1.99 worth of baby brine shrimp I picked up at the fish store on the 24th and 25th. They really liked that.

So here are a few pics from the 24th/25th. I'll post some tomorrow that will show more progress. At the time I took these I was concerned about the Turq having some other sickness that needed to be treated, he wasn't looking good and had many abrasions on one side. He does look better than this now.

Temp was brought down slowly and is now at 87F.

Fairfaxduiscus,
Discus are not easy and before jump on these beauties requiere times for read and learn.
When you start your thread you said that this discus comes from a reputable lfs, well... a rep lfs does not sale this kind of discus.
Discus are schooling fish (at least 6 for feel conforfable) and love new water, dont mess with the ph, they can make it with yuor tap water.
If really wants to try discus, start from scratch with at least 6-8 3" in your tank with no tankmates (keep your driftwood and anubias if you want) and do 50% daily W/C or 75% every other day, feed them bloodworms but use as your main food tetra color bites. Keep in mind upgrade your tank as soon as you can.
You can find reputable breeders here in AC.

Looks like you are on the right track.

what are you doing to remove the meds you have been adding to your tank?

something is still ailing them they are showing clamped fins and they are still dark...

usually when you treat them with meds you should give a week or two so to let them recoop before hitting them with other meds... this round the clock medicating routine is very hard on fish and they dont get the chance to get to normal before they get very stressed again... medications in the water need to be removed with carbon also

keep up the good work! they are looking better than the beginning
