37g issues and stock

Discus and angels will munch on brine, for sure. Sweet protein. I don't see why not but you have to keep up on filtration and water changes. Some will probably say not 8, but 6, or none at all, but I don't see it that way.

I think that the Ruby Barbs would do nicely in that tank, but I don't know what male/female ratio to put them in haha. I still favor tetras, but I'm probably very biased in their favor...

My ratio of rosy tetras is 7m:5f from what my lfs has told me (and google ). The males flare and have spats here and there but nothing crazy. I would imagine the females being much larger has something to do with it. They tend to hover and keep things in order. Go for what you feel is right and rehome from there. I'm going down to 2m:5f and chucking the rest in the 100 gallon with the neon rainbows, rasboras, and roselines. All r's, lolz.

Do what you want and go from there, man.

Usually youd want a male to female ratio of 1m:3f. In your case 2m:4f would do unless you can get more females. I have 10 cherry barbs and they males occasionally knock scales off each other but no significant damage. And thats with a ratio of 1m:4f. I can see the barbs being a good addition to the tank with their colors and schooling.
