3D Background Problems

Some questions, maybe I can help you !!
Do you still have the end piece of background you cut off ?
You said you have 2" gap on each end, is it really that much ?
Did you silicone the ends some how, or just the bottom ?
 
I threw them away. I just knew that I cut it perfectly. I took it to my father's house to use his tools and I wrote down the measurements that I needed(from off the internet). Turned out that those suggestions I read on another forum were wrong.

I am going to use eggcrate to block off the sides, and then cover that with a "rock mountain" for aesthetics.

After you have the hole pluged you can silicone some matching sand on it to hide it
somewhat.
