Will 3 fancy goldfish (2 black moor, 1 calico) be healthy in a 40g tank? I know its a foot shorter than my 55g but my 55 is getting crowded and would like to move these guys if possible. They wouldnt have any full size tankmates maybe some feeder fry growing in there. Im pretty good at keeping up with my water changes and plan on having pretty heavy filtration. Thanks.

3 fancy goldfish in a 40g ?

Still curious about this, information on websites varies way too much. Id like to get someone with experience to give their 2 cents. Thanks.

what size are they? if they're younger/smaller fish, then you'll proabably be alright but might want to think about re homing them later. otherwise that sounds fine for the moment, so long as you keep up with water changes and heavy filteration like you said.

I would move them regardless since they are coldwater fishes.

what are they chances of you moving all of the other fish that are in there with them into the 40 gallon and leaving the fancies in the 55?

I was going to say that too , the 55g fish would start off a good stock on the 40g.

Huh, for some reason that thought never occured to me. But I guess 15 or so little fish would be better off in the 40g than 3 little piggy goldfish. Thanks a lot for the responses Im going to keep the 3 goldfish in the 55 and move the others.

Yes that sounds a lot better :] And get a heater for them, if you have one in the 55 take it out and put it on the 40.
