Hello all,
Im thinking of upgrading to a 40 Gallon aquarium, but I dont know if it will fit in the limited space I have. I visited a couple of my LFS's, but none of them had 40 gal, all they had were 29 and 55. I currently have a 29, and a 55 is too big. Does anyone know the dimensions of a 40 gal tank, Im assuming there is a standard since 10, 20 and 29's have standard dimentions. Any help is greatly appreciated

40 gallon is typically sold as a 40 gallon "breeder" tank.

It is 36" long x 18"wide x "16" tall. Somewhat of an odd size, and you might have to have your shop special order a stand and top for it.

You can also get a 50 and a 65 gallon that has the same footprint as the 40 breeder but are taller. I personally think the 50 is a great size.

There is also a "40 Long" but it is the same footprint as a 55 but 4 inches shorter. You might as well just get the 55 since you can get such good deals on them.

according to the All-glass aquariums standard listing:

38 gallon:36x12x12
40 breeder:36x18x16
40 long:48x13x16
45 gallon: 36x12x24

LxWxH

hope that helps

Aha, I see, the problem was that I need a new stand for my 29 gallon. And I was thinking I might of as well get a whole new tank with stand and hood, rather than spending money on a just a stand and hood. The price would be just a little more, and it would be a good upgrade. The 55 is too big for the amount of space I have. But something around 36 inches is good. So the 50 and 65gal have the same 36x18" footprint? Thats wierd because the 55 looked much longer than 36"

Yes, thanks for the link, I need somthing along the lines of less than 40 inches long, and less than 18 inches wide... so this list has some nice options...
