40 gallon stocking ideas. HELP!

[Mr. Crayfish the great]

I have a 40 gallon bow front aquarium that was given by a friend. It comes with a C4 Fluval filter. I don't know what animals/plants to put in this tank. I am open to:

• Freshwater
• Paludarium/Vivarium
• Low level Brackish
• Pufferfish
• Amazon tank
• Crayfish
• Easy/medium level to keep creatures

I do NOT want anything to do with:

• Salt water
• Cichlids
• High Level Brackish
• Intense care fish/ other creatures.

I am looking for fish that will go well together in a 40 gallon aquarium. I am looking forward to seeing your suggestions!

What are your source water parameters?
If you get soft water out of the tap, I'd exploit that and go Amazon, but if you have hard water, maybe go the light brackish route.
