4300 Gallon Plywood Build (3600+ Take 2)

Im really hoping that these added coats of sealer does the trick or however you attack the problem it meets with total long term success. However if you should decide at some point to install a fabric liner, I highly recommend that you use bottom and vertical padding under the liner to avoid any surface irregularities that will protect the liner even to the point of a limited joint separation if that should occur after being filled for some time.

My question is once the leak has started at 27 inches, and it is brought down say 6-7 inches, does the leak stop? This would be my next test and would narrow down the possibilities.

I know you have posted this before, but the thread is so long it gets difficult to find things.....How many mils is the recomended coating, and appoximatly how many mils are you applying with each recoat?

I think what CW was reffering to is a fabric underliner that goes underneath the EPDM liner, pretty common in pond applications.

You're not understanding.

I slowly brought the level of the tank up to 27" and stopped along the way to wait to see if it leaked. It did not leak until I added the next 3 more inches to 30 inches. I know the leak occurs between 27" and 30" so I don't get what you're thinking about lowering it 6-7 inches.

The coating is supposed to be 60 mils (thickness of 2 credit cards) when done. I have no clue how many mils each coat is.

Most people put old carpet under their pond liners.

Pete,

I understand completly. The leak occurs when the water level reaches 30 inches...at 27 inches no leak. However, I am not convinced this is conclusive evidence that the leak is in that zone. What I beleive that could be happening is that the pressure becomes such at 30 inches that the leak occurs, however this could be anywhere in the tank below the 30 inch mark.

Have all your recoats only been applied at at or around the 27-30 inch range? If so it seems it most certainly would have been sealed by now.

I did think I thought you saying you recoated the bottom as well. This is actually quite perplexing, as if the product is as plyable as they claim, I cannot understand how it could be leaking.
