What do you guys think? I have a stip light that is about 15 or 25 watts, if i could get a bigger light i would do a nice planted thing with a large school of neons, but since i have such low light i was thinking african cichlids, would they do well in this tank its 36x12x24 would that proivde them with enough space? since upgrading to my 75G it seems to cruel to have any fish in somehting this small.

45 tall (hex?) is not good dimensions for africans if you are thinking along the lines of mbuna...3 feet in length is just too short.

You could try tanganyikans if you can find some around you...shellies, julidochromis, calvus...?

Brichardi would do well in the tank. You could build a rockscape that moves up the back of the tank, and have a bunch of them. They are a cool fish to keep.

Yeah, just a big school of neons would look cool, but plants enhance their beauty so much, some tall plants would look great in this tank, do you think vals would survive in there with low lighting?

what else could i put with tigerbarbs in this tank? its a 45G tall with pool filter sand and low lighting. this is what it looks like now, it has an aquaclear 200 filter, about 25 watts of light and that peice of wood, i will add more plants and finish the cycle before i add fish. Would neons work well with tiger barbs? it kind of bother me that they're not form the same area.

I have the same tank, and believe it or not, I was able to keep vals with a twin tube NO flourescent light (twice the light you currently have). If you could add a second strip it might work out. I also have some crypts, anubias, and hygrophila. Admittedly, I've seen a lot faster growth since upgrading to a 96W PC light, but the plants looked fine in there under just the twin tube.

As for stocking, I recently changed my stock to include a lot of small active fish. At the moment I have 15 celestial pearl danios, 5 furcata rainbows, a pearl gourami, 6 bumblebee gobies, 2 yo yo loaches, and a clown pleco. It's an active and interesting tank. :)

cool, thanks for the reassuring, i think i will go with kuhli loaches, tiger barbs and some danios
