Aloha kakou,
I'm about to get a good deal on a 45 gallon long tank (4' x 1' x 1.5'). Although I really wanted to get started on a reef tank, this one isn't going to be it. So, I'm looking at three different possible ideas:
- My first thought is doing another community tank with a school of clown loaches as the centerpiece. What tank mates would they like? Can I have a planted tank with loaches?
- I've also considered doing a cichlid tank. The idea of sculpting a rock environment has a great deal of appeal. Our water around here is approximately 7.6 pH, 5 kH, 8 gH. Would cichlids like that? Also, can I keep cichlids with other cichlids or would it be strictly a species tank?
- Finally I've considered going for a high-light heavily-planted Amano tank with fish as yet another decoration. This one is on the border since I'm not sure I want to go beyond the DIY type of CO2 injection. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with compressed CO2 experience.
Mahalo nui loa for any insight you can provide!
