My tank (planted 46 bowfront) has been up and running for close to a year and a half, and the current stocking is this:
1 large adult angel
2 juli cory cats
3 assorted cory cats
1 striped banjofish
3 female boesemani rainbows
1 large danio
4 gold pristella tetra
2 black phantom tetra

As you can see, that's quite an erratic compilation of fish...

I'm looking to rehome the angel, the rainbows, and the danio. I'm struggling with what kind of new "centerpieces" I want--maybe a handful of gourami's? What other options are out there? I'd like to beef up the tetra's (likely the black phantoms) as well.

Really, what would YOU do to fix this stocking? I tried adding angels and ended up killing a few.. so that didn't work.

Best,
Jake

I don't know if a bow front is big enough for a trio of pearl gouramis (1 M & 2F) but they'd be instead of the angel. It's very difficult to add angels to a tank that size (impossible as you've seen); the entire tank is the adult's territory. If you like the angel, there's nothing to say you can't keep a loner. But it will not behave well with other angels or gouramis.

I, too, prefer the phantom tetras over pristellas. So while you're rehoming see if you can "trade" pristellas & the rest for more phantoms. (not likely an "even trade" but do the best you can, there's often a bargaining area. rainbows & danio (odd corys?) = how many phantoms &/or jullii). While you're trading...do you see your banjo cat much? IME cute but they hide all the time. Just a thought...

I love corys so I'd say get more of 1s you have. They are much more fun in large groups of the same species. It's not they don't get along but they do know they're not the same & behaviors can be slightly different...let alone breeding; & that is fun to watch.

Get a Pearl G. It will allow you to expand the other fish and add a small school of tetras, rasoras or small barbs
