I gave up on saltwater recently and have converted my 120g into what will eventually be a community tank. The residents of my bowfront will be moving in to it evetually which will leave that tank without a plan. My first thought was an oscar, Im getting the impression though that its just a teeny bit too small for that. Opinions?

So, with an empty 46 bowfront and already having a 120g community, what would you run in this tank? Im sorta leaning towards a brackish tank, like some puffers an what not. I really just wanna hear some ideas though so I can filter through an see what would work best for me.
Thanks in advance.

Ive done cichlids before, and not against it again. So far, the big tank has 5-6 neon tetras, 8 blood fin tetras, and a bristlenose pleco.

I love livebearers, so thats probly where i would go, planted of course. or maybe eels, or clown loaches. cories are very cool too, but you would really have room for them in your 120! there are quite a lot of options for that tank, just depents on what your into. gouramis maybe? a few angels, or tiger barbs?

so many thoughts running through my head for ideas... with just a few tetras and a pleco id say i dont think u need to put them in the 120g, you could leave them in the 46 and plan something bigger for the 120g. in which case you could get your oscar.

ill suggest 2 scenarios:
1) expand the stocking list alot for the 120g. id definitely get more tetras maybe in the range of 20 neons (id get cardinals instead, they have full length red and blue stripes and are prettier IMO), get some other tetras like ruummynose, brass tetras, maybe some rasboras and rainbows.
in addition i think a few dwarf cichlids might be nice. take a look at the apistogramma cacatuoides. they are gorgeous.

edit: for 46 gallon cuz ur message just said so:lake tanganyikan cichlid tank, dwarf cichlid and/or smaller cichlid tank, planted discus tank is always an option

2) leave those fish in the 46g. and then turn 120g in sa/ca cichlid tank. you can get your oscar but im gonna say i think you should get some pike cichlids instead. (check out the crenicichla sp. xingu 1, cr. marmorata, cr. lacustris). most of the time you should be able to get them to be compatible granted there are a few dither fish like sd's in the tank. you could probably add some other larger cichlids to the mix but id advise against jags and mayans as there mean sob's.

Just to clarify, the 120 has the neons and tetras. The 46 has 6 tetras whose name I suddenly forgot. They will be moved to join the others in the 120 leaving the 46 open. The 120 is not fully stocked, its a work in progess. This post was to help me out with a few ideas of what to do with my empty 46 gallon. I appreciate the comments on the 120, but I'm only seeking feedback on the 46 gallon. Sorry for any confusion. =]
