46g stocking

I would skip on the Tang. Just get one Hawkfish and 2 Maroons. These fish all get around 5" and will fill 46g's pretty quickly. Maybe a blenny down the road, just to add something to the lower levels of your tank. The clowns will probably swim all over and the hawk will mostly perch on LR, so a blenny could have the substrate to avoid conflict.

I too was thinking 2 Maroons, 1 Hawk, no tang, no damsels (unless you want to cycle w/ one, trade it in later), add a shrimp or two, and 1 (pick) blenny/goby/gramma/jawfish, maybe a pistol shrimp if you get the right goby and have your LR secure on the bottom of tank.

I've had a Yellow Tang for 2.5 yrs in a 60 US gal she was quite small when I got but now she's just starting to get aggressive and peck at corals and feathers that normally she would leave alone. I'm putting it down to the fact she's outgrown her current accomodation. I was going to trade her in for a Mandarin but i'm getting a bigger tank instead!!!!

The problem with keeping a fish that we know will outgrow our system is the attachment. I think it is difficult to admit a fish is too big for your tank if you are attached to it. Just stock things that will live happily for years in your current tank. If you get a larger tank later, then you could add a tang, or whatever.

If you do get a Hawkfish it will eventually eat any shrimp that you put in your tank. So many fish have trade-offs that make them great for one reason, and limiting for another.

yea i wouldnt do the tang..i have done that very thing and now the 30 gallon she was meant to be moved to when she becomes to large doesnt look like its going to happen because i cant trust the owner to keep her alive....so ill have to sadly sell her if i dont get my own apartment before that....the attachment is really bad...just my 2 cents though.
