im planning on buying new lights for my 55,mine right two 23" tubes only have a max of 30wattz:thud: .pathetic......but now im wondering what the max would be for a dual 48" hood???

Should be fine it will just make it brighter. 80 watts on 55 gallons is a good starting point for planting a tank.
lol, yeah okay, thanks, right now my scarlet temple is doing pretty good with only 30watts.and im surprised to see my dwarf hairgrass doing the same!
if your going to buy the fixtures i would go with the t8 shop lights. pick up some philip daylight deluxe bulbs.
shop lights come in two sizes. T12 and T8. t8 is 1 inch diameter t12 is 1.5 inch.
