making your own 4dkh solution, if you dont have the correct tools, is basically guess and check.
Example:
Fill glass with distilled water, add baking soda, test, add baking soda or water as necessary, test, add baking soda or water, test. WOOT! you got it...test again...you dont have it, test again, still dont have it. add water, test, you are closer, test, little more water, test...too much water, add baking soda, test....

What happens if we start out with water of a known KH.....your tank water (I am assuming your KH test is accurate and or calibrated), and add an appropriate ratio of distilled water to tank water to create 4dkh water?

If this is possible and would be relatively accurate can someone help me with the formula? there is a reason i'm a writer and not a mathematician.

with RO you should be working with pure water or darn close to it.
this would reduce variables that could occur with normal tap.

i dont understand...maybe i phrased my question wrong. as long as i know what my kh is by testing, and before concocting it, the 4dkh should be able to be obtained with a simple formula, right? Or, at least be relatively accurate.

if i have tankwater that i know is 15dkh
and in an accurate measuring vessel put in:
2.16 oz of tankwater
5.84 oz of distill water

shouldn't that yield 3.9DKH water (as long as i didnt screw up measuring too much? and my math is soemwhat near accurate?)

the point is to reduce variables that may affect accurate readings from water used in a drop checker.

using ro reduces those variables and will give you the best reliable reading.

tap may have other impurities in it that may affect the drop checker.

if you want to use tap and ro mix to make your drop check water your logic makes sense.

but the water may not be a good control since it is not pure.

Its far easier and less time consuming to usually just purchase a large bottle of 4kDH fluid. No guessing/math and a bottle will last many many years.

i would absolutely love to do that but unfortunately i sat there for over an hour today sulking over how broke i was...wishing i didnt have car payments, fancy lights over my fish tank, thinking about how my eco complete was one months cell phone bill my lights were a car insurance payment and so on....if you would like to raok me some i'd love to have it but as of right now that is unfortunately not an option.
