A good suggestion for a 5 g is 3 or4 comet goldfish. They dont get to big and are very pretty fish.

Okay, I'm a dumb beginner, but even I know not to buy goldfish. xD
Poor college students and 60+gallon tanks don't get along.
 
Gosh you guys are getting me so excited looking up all these fish. I can't wait till I have my own place and can get out my old 30 gallon!

Actually my friends and I have joked about such things, as the rules of the college only say pets must be 'aquarium creatures'. How long can hamsters hold their breath?
