5 Gallon Fancy Guppy Tank

A little update on this tank. I bought a fiddler crab today from a LFS and they told me that they are freshwater. They did not tell me that they need to be kept in paludariums though. And these are infact brackish crabs. For now I put him in this tank and turned it into a bit of a paludarium. Here are some pictures.

fiddlers are pretty cool. ive been meaning to try and make a paludarium for some that i will catch from the wild.

woooow an i dont even like pink but they pretty

Okay last update. I rearranged it again so the crab can have easier access to land.

Also, the female guppy started to get mean and bully around the male guppy. And she was tearing up his fins. They healed quickly though after I took her out. I was going to put her in a 33L soon to be brackish, but I guess purple spotted gobys have quite the taste for live fish :jaw-dropping:.

So I put one of my moscow black guppys that wasn't able to keep up with the rest in with my moscow blue guppy.

Here is a video update.

Fiddler Crabs

About a month ago, I bought two little fiddler crabs and put them in with my betta. He was extremely curious about them, but after a while left them alone. And they were doing fine. I had a large plant that one crawled to the top of, and got the idea to make a sort of paludium for them. They were doing fine and even shed their shells once. I thought about making the surface area larger so put a piece of wood near the top of the aquarium. This was treated and I've used it before in my other tanks. The only problem with this piece of wood is that it leaches into the water and turns it a dark gold color. I've been told that this has no harmful effect and is actually beneficial for fish. I've had fish who've lived in this type of water, so I don't think it's of any harm to them. But what about crabs? I came home yesterday to find both of them dead, which leads me to believe something killed them at the same time. I'm wondering if it's whatever leached into the water from this piece of wood. Has anyone ever had anything similar to this?

Fiddler crabs are actually brackish and tannins from the driftwood create blackwater which needs completely different PH and I know it effects other stuff such as alkalinity or hardness (not sure which).

Fiddler crabs die soon in freshwater unless they are acclimated to brackish, and this change in the freshwater was the opposite of what these crabs needed which could have shortened their lives a lot more.
