5 gallon new set up question

I agree...replace it with a spiral CFL. You can find them at most home improvement stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) or somewhere like Walmart.

I replaced my 15 watt florescent tube with cfl bulbs on my 10 gallon last week. Already the plants seem to be doing better! :)

ok well, now I'm confused again! (not that it takes much to confuse me!) This bulb http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=296889-371-60055&lpage=none says it's 60 watt but only uses 15 watts. HUH????? My tank instructions said not to use more than a 25 watt bulb because of risk of fire. So would this bulb be ok? I don't understand when it says it's a 60 watt but only uses 15 watts. To me that makes NO sense. Someone smarter than me about light bulbs please clear my confusion!

15 watts CFL = 60 watts incandescent...basically its more energy efficient. Go by the actual wattage (15).

ok, thanks, i'll trust in your electrical know how! i'm off to the hardware store!

Hah, I'm not all that great when it comes to electricity. ;)

well you helped me so you're aces in my book! I give you five stars! (or how about smiley faces?) :D:D:D:D:D
