I filled the tank up with water, still needs a bit more water. Going to get some guppies and use this tank as a qt for the last time then think about what really to stock it. My heater is a hang on back style and an inch or so is in the gravel, is this okay?

A very novel idea!

That plate up above is the damper. They are notorious for leakage of warm air out of the house and drafts coming down. It would be best to stuff some insulation op there to minimize it.

Very cool idea. The heater should not be in the gravel though.
And to think I recently took out a wood burning fireplace in my house because we never used it. I wish I saw this first!

I would spend a few bucks for a new smaller heater, The heat that will build up where it is buried will crack the heater.

Good idea of space usage, I would of used some fake red plants to give flame like experience.

looks pretty nice, but i suggest writing to santa clause and asking him to use the front door or window instead of the chimney this year.
