5 Mystery Fish Dead on the Road

Okay, so I came into work today and a coworker told me that he and his wife went for a walk last night and found 5 fish dead in the middle of the road! Someone just tossed their fish out in the road!!!!!!!!!! :mad2:

He's the guy who gave me my first tank (55 gallon w. cichlids), so he was quite upset at the sight, and so was his wife!!! He wants to know what type of fish they may have been.

He said they looked like perch but were very orange in color. They ranged in length from 3-7inches, and they were all the same type of fish. He said they were fat.

Anyone have any ideas on what type of fish they might have been?

oh that's so sad! don't have any idea what they were but that really sucks!

I know! It just makes me so mad that someone would toss fish out into the street like that!

you sure someone dumped them? Was it near a local pond? We find fish, rabbits, etc dumped in the middle of our lawn frequently from birds dropping them. Sad all the same.

All orange or just orange under the mouth and back to the belly? Where the definitely tropical fish from a tank? I was thinking some one may have caught some really nice perch/darters (some do have better colors- especially during breeding season) and they left them on the trunk,truck bed, etc. and they fell off down the road (did lose a coffee mug that way once - figured some on fish could have lost their catch the same way)

That may be the case- he says he is going to take a photo tonight if they are still there... I doubt it with cats and cars and birds...

He's kept cichlids and he said the fish reminded him of perch but the coloring was just a bright orange- he said something about salmon orange? Does that make sense?

He doesnt think someone caught them because of how small the smallest one was... either way sad.

Perhaps we'll never know.

I did a google search. He said they looked like this but not quite- the head doesnt dip and not that color at all. All Orange.

Well, there are but not near his place. I dont think anything would have dropped all 5 fish in the same spot. Especially with such varying size.

Perch which is a very tasty fish I must say and found in lots of lakes throughout the US.

is there a nearby fish store? maybe someone forgot the bag on top of their car and when it hit the ground the bag broke, and the fish flew out.
