I was at petsmart to pick up my g/f and a 50 gallon tank had 2 cracks in a bottom corner about 2 inches long, so her manager said we could buy it for like $35. So we bought it. I'm gonna put some silicone on the cracks and we'll prolly use it for snakes or some type of reptile.

You should go to your local glass shop and buy a piece of glass that is big enough to cover the cracks. Use silicone to stick the glass down on top of the cracks and then seal around it. You'll should use a razor blade to strip out the silicone around the cracks before you put the glass down, so it fits snug against the side or corner. You only need 1/8" - 3/16" glass to do it. Putting the glass over it helps prevent the crack from becoming larger when you put any weight on it.

I've got a freebie 20 tall with a cracked bottom. We were going to replace the bottom, as in take it apart and put it back together and re-seal it all. Are you saying we can simply put the new piece in the bottom and seal it? That would be WAY easier!

im pretty sure it will be fine with just some silicone on the bottom. As long as you dont fill it with any water and as long as the cracks are not wide.

If youre going to put water in the tank, its one thing. If its just for a reptile thats another.

PuppyFluffer: Replace the entire bottom pane of glass if your going to put water in the tank.JM is right, it will not make it safe.
