50 gallon garbage bin

YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH S.A. AND YOULD NEED TO SUPER INSULATE YOUR TRASHCAN LIKE A JACUZZI. IT'LL COST TOO MUCH BOTTOM LINE

lol if i do it, it will be inside. wich i am thinking of doing, but inside. got a few bigger rubbermaid tubs that has xmas lights and stuff in i am also thinking of using but washing out the tub well. and moving the xmas lights to a box.

No.

Although it may be water tight, it just wont stand up to the weight, and eventually it will just split down the side, and blow apart.

Go ahead, ask me how I know this... go ahead.

Ok you probably wont ask me, but just trust me on this one, it will not last when full of water.
I was trying to use one of these just as water storage, from my RO system, and after about a week, the whole side of it blew out, and i had a very wet floor.
you would be better off with a Phenolic resin tub.

If it is some flimsy plastic blow molded tub, then i wouldnt take chances with it.

they are made by heating up a sheet of plastic, and then vacuum forming it into a mold.
the result is a container with non uniform thicknesses... which translates into weak spots in the tub.

all you need is for one of those thin spots to give out and destroy the structural integrity of the whole tub.

BUT, It depends on the tub, and how its made...
I have 2 of these 18 gallon tubs that have been holding up just fine, andd they were only $6 each.
I would recommend something round like this because rectangular tubs will distort, and cause undue stress on the tub, and eventually crack.

But I still wouldnt put it outside in Wisconsin.

just remember to look at the material the trash can is made of.. like PVC.. which stands for poly vinyl CHLORIDE.. so warm water and hot water will cause the chlorine to come out at the same time weakening the plastic due to it's components dissolving and changing the overall structure. not a worry if its only for the winter though i'd still put a little dechlor ever so often just in case. you should have seen the mayhem i had with hot RO going through a garden hose.. all bad

My sister works for Rubbermaid and these (although they are used for it ALL the time) are not recommended to keep fish in either. They will hold up to the water but it has something to do with the chemical makeup leeching into the water after a period of time.
