50 watt heater in a 3 gallon Eclipse?

I'm moving my betta from his 1 gallon mini tank to a 3 gallon "monster" Eclipse. In order to keep the water temp up near 78-80, I'd like to get a heater. There's one for sale locally for $10, but it's 50 watts. Obviously it'll have no problem heating the tank to ridiculous temperatures, but will it work properly for a tank this small?

Also, is there an EASY way to feed through the filter access door? There's a tiny gap between the filter "rack" and the hood that I can almost fit my chubby digits through, but it doesn't seem to be as convenient as people make them out to be. It'd be nice if they had a top front door for feeding / water changes / viewing.

i really didn't look at it that closely....lemme see if i can find it online.

i foudn it, but the site doesn't say if its adjutable or not.

It's not just whether his temperature stays in a particular range, but whether it stays steady - the light over my 6g Eclipse will heat it to about 81*, so that's where I set the heater - that way the betta is at 81* all the time.

I don't know about you, but a 4 degree fluctuation over 12 hours is good enough for me. I'll keep an eye out for further differences.

He's beautiful. Perhaps The Mighty Pixie Queen (or someone else with lots of betta experience) will stop by and comment on the temp fluctuation - I can't say for certain what kind of impact it has - only that everything I've read has said "stable" or "steady".
