I'm currently running a 50w stealth in my 10 gallon tank but I can't seem to get the water temperature above 68*F. Room temp is probably right around 68*F as well so I'm not even sure if the heater is working...I wish they had lights or something on them when they are on. My target temp is 75-77*F.
So, is a 50w enough to keep this tank heated almost 10*F above ambient temperature?
I have to agree with FastFly67, I have a 10G myself with the exact same heater (and live in the Great White North). Mine has been absolutley bullet-proof with no variance in temp to note. True there is no light, but if you feel the end furthest from the cord/control you should feel heat. I am guessing your is either worn out (or if new a dud). I have heard nothing bad about these heaters, so if it is new, get it replaced and if it is old, I hope you got a lot of good use out of it already. I am currently using mine to cycle a tank and it is holding 31C perfectly, day or night.
I agree, it isn't working. 50w heater seem a little hit and miss--but I would suggest calling to get a refund or they will just keep shipping faulty units : /
