I'm a bit perplexed with the world of all the new lighting out there.

I have the new style 55 gal with the center brace and I'm looking at going with more powerfull lighting. Currently has 2 24" single bulb hoods.

If I go with a 48" CF lighting such as:

How does that work with that center brace? what in the way of to keep fish in would be needed?

Thinking the Glass Tops but not sure how it works with all these new type lights.

Thanks,

You have the hood which is plastic on the front half, glass on the back half for the lights? Then get the full glass hoods and you'll be all set. It will actually be 2 seperate hoods, much like what you already have, except they'll be glass. For each hood, there's a front piece of glass and rear piece, connected by a black plastic hinge. On the back side of the rear piece of glass is a plastic strip which you can cut with scissors for the filter, electrical cords, etc....
Seen here as an example http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3790&N=2004+113765
you might notice that the plastic hinge can be had in black, oak, and walnut finishes.

I'm not familiar with that specific light, but hopefully it will sit up off the tank a little, since the glass hoods will actually be below the rim of the tank...like 1/8th of an inch or so.
