Just yesterday I added 7 Neon Tetras to my tank. This morning I awoke to find 3 remaining and NO sign of the other 4. I thought my Pitcus Cats were the perps, but to my chagrin, their bellies were as flat as can be. Has anyone experienced this? My species and specs are as follows:
2 Gold Gouramis
2 Blue Gouramis
1 (very ill) Flame Gourami -->:( (he has passed) :(
2 Long Finned Rosy Barbs
2 Pitcus Cats
3 Algae Eaters
6 Zebra Danios
1 Very Cool Eel
Levels are as follows:
Amonia- 0
Nitrites- 0
Nitrates- <20
PH 7.6
Any info or possible explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I have one that size. It could have been a combination of all the fish munching away at them. I've even seen neons picking at other dead neons. I'd say it was probably a combination of all of them, but obviously we can't be completely sure =)
 
filter? i have found 2 dead neons in my filter media after serached extremely hard for them (it was a species tank so i couldnt figure it out)
 
I'm gonna put my money on the "very cool eel"

The tetras would be bite size for even a juvenile(well, maybe 2 bites), and who knows, maybe he wanted multiple midnight snacks :eek:

I think you may be right. And now they are all gone. This morning I awoke to find NO more neons in the tank. And when I think about it, I haven't seen that eel eat a thing since I bought it. Oh well, lesson learned.

Ya know, I think that neon tetras are kinda expensive feeder fish.........Walmart has feeder goldfish for like 28 cents :D

I learned the hard way that predatory fish should not be kept with smaller fish. I had a birchir(rope fish), and about once a week or so, a fish would dissapear. Course, my birchir solved my dilemma for me. He jumped tank.......After that, no more fish disappearances. I guess he was the fish mafia.....
