I am getting a new 55-Gal tank in Jan. I want to do a fresh water setup that is as natural and colorful as I can get. If anyone can give me some advise it would be greatly appreciated.

There are many options that you have. Do you want a planted tank? Do you have any particular fish in mind? What kind of filtratation are you wanting to get? There are alot of questions that YOU need to answer. It's really up to what you want. If you give a few answers many people can start you in the right direction.

Welcome to this totally addictive hobby, you are not alone! :)

Do what I did. Go through the puctures posted by members of their tanks on this web, you will see some very beautiful, natural aquariums! I love to look!

what type of set up do you want.
as advised by reddog we need more info.

Well I have done some reading on some of the better filter types for the initial setup. I am looking on buying a Canister Filter, or at least to really good HOT filters. As far as planted I would like to have a nice natural habitat for the fish so I would say yes to a planted tank setup. I guess as far as stocking the tank for colorful fish that work well with each other. And the type of substrate that works well with plants and some of the fish I want to purchase.

Thanks your advise will be greatly appreciated.
