I am new to cichlids and i have a 55 gallon tank. I was thinking to put one or more of these fish in the tank. Red Devil, Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, Jaguar. What would you put in there?

well what do you have in there already?

The Colleseum

I have a 55 gal tank, at one point in time i had a paku, oscar, 2 dempseys, 2 convicts, green tera, talipa, sevrum, and a pleco. for a few months, it was alot of fun to watch, but as the pacu got bigger (they grow regardless the size of tank) he seemd to become cramped and angry. at first he would pick on the smaller fish and then dtarted to become incredibly aggressive toward the oscar. i had to remove. once he was gone, with the right amount of food and cleanings (once every other week, no more than 4) it was very enjoyable.

pound for pound, the convicts are the best, they can really hold there own and do breed very easily. the dempsey is the most durable and docile. the terror, talipa, and sevrum just went about there business. you need to keep this tank clean though otherwise you run in to all sorts of problem. and if you feed feeder fish, dont over do it.

Umm... that'd be a battle royal if you put all of those fish together in a 55 gallon, especially as the fish get larger! YIKES!

With a 55 gallon I would only add ONE of the fish from that list that's it!

Otherwise it'll be a disaster waiting to happen.

A 55 is too small for any of the fish you would want to add. Just simply not enough width in the tank. A 75gal is a minimum for them, and only a single specimen, or a bonded pair of ONE of those species would do.

has everyone missed the point here, READ what wardley responsed back. that is INSANE. all those fish in a 55 gallon. what is wrong with you. if you're going to be that careless with your fish then give them to someone who really cares about them.

Your 55 tank

Go with african ciclid 's four or five. They have differt colors in them. alot easyer to have. Also try blood parrot's. :hi:

get 2 dempseys thats what i got

A 55 is not a suitable tank for One dempsey let alone two.

As to the "african cichlid" comment. Sorry to burst your bubble but there are much much more for cichlids in Africa than those from Lake malawi, and even those very so much in size you can not accurately reccomend stocking by saying just put 4 or 5 of them in there. The "blood parrots" would potentially work, but only at most a confirmed male/female pair.

Wardy what you have in that tank of yours is stupid, and dangerous to the healthy of those fish, do not advocate to someone else do even try it.
