That's excellent.:)

If I wanted to do something like this also, could I?
55g:
2- Festivum Cichlids - 6"
2- Firemouth Cichlids - 3"
2-
Kuhli Loaches - 3"
6- False Julii Cories- 2"
1- Delhezhi Bichir - 14"

40g:
2- German Blue Rams - 3"
2- Double Full Red Cockatoo Cichlid - 3.5"
6- Marble Hatchets - 2"
6- False Julii Cories - 2"

the bichir would eat the loaches, try to eat the cories, and maybe take a bite out of one of the others.

the 40 is good as long as there is a balance on the bottom between territory for rams/apistos and swimming room for the cories.

If you are buying them as juveniles it would be rediculous to have 1 1" jack dempsey in a 55 gal tank. I say stick with your original plan and when they get to big and aggressive, start trading in the smaller ones or get a new tank for them. Or (this may sound cruel) just go "darwanistic" and let nature take it's course and have the JD weed out the weaker fish IF he wants, just don't restock the tank If the dominant fish decides to take over.

there's nothing darwinistic about a fish tank. in the wild, fish can use survival skills like "swimming far away" or "finding a good place to hide".

so... no bichir? I could do... a couple black veil angels instead? or some large convicts? or some keyholes?

convicts would be too aggressive, keyholes might be bullied by the larger cichlids as they are very peaceful. angels would do okay. or some more peaceful convict relatives like honduran red points.

I think i am going to go with the angels, thanks for the help!
