55 gallon beardie tank log

I used that color of Krylon stone paint for my FBT tank and it turned out well, but needs lots of coats. But it looks great and I didn't need to use a substrate then. I think it would definitely look cool for a beardie tank.

I think the craigslist in my area must stink, I rarely if ever find good deals, or tanks are advertised as large but end up being like 15 gallons!

I got it all painted tonight and am currently putting a couple of coats of sealer on the stone paint to help keep it from chipping.

I am really happy with the way the paint looks, I plan to use paper towels as the substrate, not the most attractive, but it is super easy to keep his cage cleaned out that way!

How long should the paint cure before I can move him into his new house...it is all on the outside of the tank.

To be safe, I would wait at lest 72 hours or until you could not smell the new paint.

Update!

Here are some pictures of how it looks so far.
Tank furniture is only temporary until I can get some foam and carve/grout it the way I want it.

His
UVB is a reptisun 10.0, with a normal household flood as a basking light and a flourescent strip and flood for extra lighting.

The stairs are just spice racks that I grouted and painted to see how it would look, and the branchy looking stuff is fake aquarium driftwood that I am not using at the moment.

Just for reference here he is the first day we got him in a little 10 gallon with the same wood. He was soooo tiny!
He was only in that tank for a couple of days while I got everything set up in a 20 long.

Hey, b4 you go the foam and grout way check out the way I did my background for my terrarium. It's still foam but it can be colored the way you want it to be without out having to coat an ugly color like yellow.

And you could apply coco fiber right to the foam without needing silicon caulk. Further should you change your mind its easy to remove from the tank with a razor blade.

Check out the build and the variety of links there .. sorry they are long threads but have a ton of information there.

I am thinking of doing the grout then painting it with craft paint and using a sealant so that it can be scrubbed and cleaned. Plus it will look somewhat natural to his habitat.

He is a pooping machine I need to be able to wipe/wash/disenfect as needed to keep his house clean!

Well, you could leave the coco-fiber off and have a very natural looking background even still. Just a thought, And it would look like rock as well.

Best wishes,

Wes

I'm actually not going to do a full backround, just some ramps and basking platforms and maybe a cave or two.

I have thin dowels to stick into the legs of the platforms and ramps at the high spots for support.
