Just thinking of a 55 gallon setup and was curious if it would work.

1 Jack Dempsey
2 Raphaels
2 Pictus Cats.
2 Clown Loaches

The Jack Dempsey is a maybe, I am just trying to find a interesting fish for midwater swimming. But have heard that JD's are to aggressive.

If have a better suggeston let me know.

or leopard ctenopoma very nice don't get too big either!

right now I will probably be going with some angels, but keep the recommendations coming.

Do not know about Goatman, but I look to my left at the 125 gallon tank that has two pic's @ 11", 4 yr old.

This site, as many others, do not have as accurate species profiles as they could have.

Before getting any knife or elephant nose, look at their adult size and imagine them in a 55.

I'll tell you now that a knife of any kind will get about a foot in your tank and the elephantnose eight inches. This will be just fine with those small bottom dwellers as long as there is lots of hiding spots! And it should be as small as possible 3-4 inches.

wow this post went all over the board didnt it? NO ELEPHANT NOSE!!! To many bottom feeders as it is... A 55g is plenty for a full grown JD(no smaller) A knife fish?????????? A brown knife can get over 1ft long... A clown knife can grow as long as 40"... Yes thats right 40" thats a lil over 3ft long. A Black ghost knife will only get about 10" but its another bottom feeder. Clown loaches WILL get over 1ft long but they will take years to get that big and btw mine are out all day long and very playfull and I only have 2. I have them in a ph of 8.2 with my fronts.
So I would go with a cichlid if you want. A severum is a moderately peacefull fish. My JD acts like a little girl. He hides all day. Angels are very nice fish also...

YOU GOTTA SHOW ME A TANK RAISED KNIFE 3 FEET! :thud:

ive seen tank raised clown knives at least 3 feet long at the fish supertstore by the mall. they were around $150, but they were full size. they had wild ones next to them for twice as much though and they were a couple of inches smaller. how do i know? i asked the guy if they would fit in a 30 gallon and he said that they would litterally "fit" lenghtwise from tip to tip. thats why they were in the giant 250 some gallon show tank in the front of the store...
i see BGKs all around, even at Petsmart. the last time i went there there was a really good looking one in a tank and i passed it after looking at it and when i came bach it was dead. shame... it was only 4" long.

I am talking about clown knife fish.. Do a search on them. I think they can exceed 40"

hmm

another possibility I am considering though not sure if 55 gallon is big enough, would be to put some sharks into the 55 gallon tank.
