55 gallon stocking

This kind of aggression from these two fish are most like to-the-death type of fights. If they do not fatally injure each other, the stress might be enought to make them die. A JD can be very, very aggressive and grows to approx 10 inches, while an Oscar is not as agressive, it is still very aggressive and grows to approx 14 inches. IMO a 55g is the absolute minimal size for an Oscar alone. I do not recommend putting these two together, especially in a 55g. If they are small, you might get away with it for a while but if you probably won't upgrade, then I definetly don't suggest it.
 
I was talking about a JD and Oscar for a 75, with a cave and other things for shelter. If that doesn't/does work, would a (sorry only got scientific names) Thorichthys meeki and/or Aequidens pulcher work in a 75 with an Oscar?
 
if you were gonna go for aggression and beauty, you could read up on some african cichlids, mbuna, haps, peacocks. you can keep several in a 55 and most grow 6- 8 inches. mean buggers, though.
 
a tank full of angels would be good looking with a few dither fish like danios
 
I am looking more towards size and smarts, rather than beauty. I have a community tank for beauty. This one is to show off to all my friends. Would a Pleco be good in a 75 with an oscar, since oscars are messy and plecos clean up messes?

Also, I am trying to keep a North/South American theme going...

I this heard from numerous sources, but it could just be myth. If you put two fish together as juveniles, and introduce them at the same time, will the fish tolerate eachother?

Not the common pleco seeing as they get get 18+ inches, i would go with the bristlenose pleco....A JD and an Oscar would be too big to live peacefully together in a 75, even with caves the two will come out to fight...
