55g Build Log Reef tank NEED HELP

Thanks cheech for the help, i feel like i will loose to much center support, and i realized i can not change the width support because well then my tank would not be resting on the full beams so i have concluded i am going to diy my own sump. I am going to build a 20 gallon sump out of 1/4inch glass and it will be 10 inches wide so i will be able to fit inside my stand.

Or would doing it out of 1/4inch acrylic be better / cheaper?

thoughts?

Overflow box is complete... here are some pictures.

I used 1in pvc pipe for the siphon tube and some containers i got at walmart.
what do you think about it?

next i will be making the sump any suggestions before i begin?

thanks

My suggestion would be to build 45 degree angle braces for the back section. That should leave you enough space in the center for the depth you need, and still be strong enough.

Yea that did come up in my thought and i think that is what i am going to do, i was pondering the idea because i feel it won't give much downward support but it will definatly sturdy up the frame i think the corner posts will be strong enough to hold it up. I will add those too supports to the rear of the frame and how it works out.. thanks

just a quick suggestion , i built my overflow myself too ( but with pvc pipes ) and to hide its ugly handemade look ( urs s much better lookin than mine ) i built somethin like a box with same size as overflow with black plexi glass and hide the overflow behind it ;)

The sump is now complete here is a look at it.

The center will be a refugium. sorry about the white silicon i ran out of clear trying to save money.... now for some questions!!!

So what to put in the sump? I have the return pump for the left side. For the right i have the overflow pipe and a carbon bag. And the center will be the refugium? But what do i put in the refugium, sand, live rock? not 100% sure.

Live rock questions? Ok lets say i get 10lbs of live rock for my 55 gallon tank, lets say i put base rock in for the rest of the 40lbs will that work? also do i need to put live sand if i have live rock? i was thinking about a 2 inch sand bed of just regular sand i think that will be deep enough maybe 3?

So any feedback would be much appreciated.
