Ok guys and gals. I'm moving this coming weekend and am going to be completely tearing down the tanks. What really irks me is that I have to go through that trouble just to move the tank two doors down the hall (to a bigger apartment). I hope everything goes okay and that my crypts don't decide to melt on me because of getting jostled around.

I am most dreading trying to catch the 9 otos that hide in the java fern. Sometimes they dont come out no matter how hard I shake it - and I dont have anything big enough to submerge the whole piece. Sigh. Oh, that and catching the ghost shrimp since I have to take the entire substrate out. Should be fun. NOT.

At any rate, I just wanted to take a couple of pics before "the move" in case something (I dont know what) goes wrong.

I just trimmed/fiddled with the tank half an hour ago. Trimmed the wisteria down, moved the wisteria indica and took about 3 gallons of hydrocotyle out. I love that plant but have no where to put it:(

Very nice leopardess. Could you just get some movers to help carry the tank with a little bit of water and all the plants in place? 3 or 4 strong guys could probably carry it.

I know your pain..... I'll be moving 10 minutes away with the same problem as you though I have several tanks to move.... except, my planted 55 tank is no where as nice as yours.... I remember 2 years ago, I only had 1 55 gallon to move (when I got here) and vowed never to move it again. It was a nightmare..... of course there were only 2 of us moving it too (me and my sis). I don't think I ever moved anything so heavy! of course, I left the gravel in the tank when I moved it..... AND I guess the lesson learned from it was that this time i'll be removing all the substrate to buckets and such and hoping for the best. Good luck with your move, hope things go as smoothly as they can.

yah, I've got 12 tanks to move:( Many are small (10g) but I'm not looking forward to having to tear down the 55g. The 29 is plastic plants so that's no big deal. The nice 10g planted I'll move with 3g of water in it and the plants will be fine. It's just going to be a long day that day. Plus, I'm worried that when I sit the 55g down and get it filled up, I'll say "Oh no, I have to move it so that can go there" or "It doesn't reallyfit here." I think I'll move it last to be sure.

Maybe in the new apt. I'll be able to get the new 55g I'm getting up and running (as of now, the plan was for it to go into storage). Hmm...I am getting rid of my 4' vanity in the bedroom...:D


I'm afraid to move the 55g with anything in it because I've heard a lot of stories about them cracking when doing that because of the pressure:(

So pretty! I love looking at your tanks. Very inspiring for my minor endeavors. Best of luck on the move. Wow, I can't even imagine moving tanks...

I found a 45-50 something gallon tank in the back of my house (it's great, I just go into my dad's old stuff and find fish tanks), I'm planning on moving in a year or so, so I'm not even going to set the thing up now...that is, if I can resist the urge!
 
i envy you and your planting skills leopardess! that tank is a beaut.

man, plastic plants don't even COMPARE to real live plants..

but i always wonder, how do ppl like you who have heavily planted tanks find out when a fish dies or sumthen?

I would think that you could roll it on a dolly or two. 4 strong guys and have em lay it on the dollys, then you could roll it. I would think that you would be okay with about 15 gallons of water in there. My calculations say that would be about 160 pounds, 40 pounds on each corner. I don't think that would be too much pressure, as long as the movers are real careful. Good luck!!!

Snaf- thanks for the offer:) Its the thought that counts.

As far as using a dolly, well, a) I don't know where to get any, b) I don't have 4 strong guys, and c) the stand is such that the ends are completely flush with the ground. Unless you could pick up an entire end of the tank (which would make the water really uneven) I dont think I could get it up on a dolly in the first place.

It is a good idea:) Maybe if I had more than a week's notice that we needed to move (so they can get someone in this apt) I'd have thought of something else.


It's okay I guess. I'm going to maybe re-'scape the whole thing...I don't really like it, the more I look at it.

m3thod- as far as dead fish. Most don't die:) But if one does, I'll notice that one is missing. The thing that would be the hardest to know is if an oto died (I have 9). they don't come out too much - and if they do, its usually only 3 or 4 at a time. But I do a fish-count everyday to make sure every other fish is still okay:)
