55gal Planted Build Log Thread

Great build thread! I haven't been brave enough to go with the "real" CO2 setup yet. That and it's a little pricey for me at the moment.

My Rams were very shy when I first got them, but I've had them for about 4 months and they come out to see what I'm doing anytime I come around. They're not shy in the least bit.

Thanks very much! :)

Glad to hear about the rams too, james! I was scared that their skittishness was because they didn't like the water... if you don't mind sharing, what are your water params? The PH is at like 7 because of the co2, but the nitrates have me nervous :uhoh:

I keep the temp around 80 cause they're spawning. My PH is 7.6. I don't have a GH/KH test yet though, so I can't test that. They're the only 2 in a 20 Long.

Mine are the Long Finned variety too. Here's some pics:

They're actually a lot darker at the moment because they're getting ready to lay eggs again.

I love those long fins and the colors! And they're laying eggs again? HUZZAH. Mr internet kept saying that they need lower ph to breed, ha! Thanks for sharing. I feel calmer now lol :D

Yeah, I read that too. I had them in a 55 gallon community tank and noticed that the female was pregnant, so I moved them to a 20 gallon by themselves. They spawned last week, but ate the eggs. So she's pregnant again and I expect her to lay them this weekend. Hopefully she won't eat them this time and I can get some fry from it. :D

Oh man, I've never even had livebearer fry. Don't make me start fantasizing about baby rams!! :D *drool*

Thank you satanpie.... your avatar made me lol. Oh britney.
