will a 55 gal metal stand that holds two tanks,,one up,, one down,, hold a 75 gal on the top??????
i plan on putting 3/4 shelving material on the top to extend the base for the 75.. but does anyone know if the 55 stand would hold the weight with ease...?????????

its a store bought newer stand pretty sturdy ....

I would be more concern about having the tank hang (even with the 3/4 shelve material) in the front and back of the stand. I know it's only a few inches but we are not dealing with 10 and 20 gallons tank there.

:iagree:Get a stand that fits the tank. That's a lot of water to have to mop up should you have a failure.

+1 agreement here. This is really no place to take shortcuts when dealing with 700+ pounds of water, glass livestock etc. The tank is your "house". Put it on a solid foundation.

Agreed, the most important thing with a tank stand is to have all four corners supported.
A 75 ona 55 stand would hang over the back and two corners would not be supported thus causing critical failure at some point, guaranteed.

Can we see a pic of it...most ones I have seen, I would not choose to do so.

here is a pic of my 55 on stand now,,, and i have a pic of my 29 gal with shelving under on a 20 gal stand. for the 29 there is extra inch or so in front and back and 2 inch or so shelf overhang on each end...tanks sit perfectly level have 100% contact all way around,,, i just thought that a two tank stand could hold the weight of one 75 gal... ????

thanks for comments

My issues isn't the total weight on the stand. It's the way weight is being distributed. Is it going to cause a problem 6 months down the road? I don't know but wouldn't want to find out. Standard glass tank are designed so that weight sits on the edge of the 4 sides. I want to have support directly beneath each of the sides, even if its done with 1x3 like I see with the pine stand.
