Didnt know where to put this as the tank is planted, contains Apistos and Catfish. So it has ended up here as my first priority was to have a planted tank.
At the moment i have only two tanks running one a 14in grow-out tank, and the other an Aqua-one AR980 tank with an Eheim 2073 Pro 3 canister filter and soon to come T5HO pendant light.
This tank is set up as an Amazonian Biotope. It has a breeding pair of Apistogramma Borelli, a pair of German bred Apistogramma Cacatuoides "double reds", 10 Rummy-nosed tetras which are also breeding. Soon to come though, are a trio, maybe 4 bristlenose cats of some type, 6 Corydoras pygmaeus, and possibly 4-5 Otocinclus Cocama "Zebra"
The reason i havent any cats yet is because i am after something special. I have been trying to source Zebra plecs but here in Australia, they are incredibly hard to find, as there was only 1 or 2 groups of fish brought into Australia before they were made illegal to import. Now the fish are up to $1500 a fish. The problem of interbreeding also arises as all of these young are related quite closely.
This is why i am probably going to fall back on a group of Peppermint Bristlenoses which are more common but still up to $350 for a breeding trio.
I am worried that the bristlenoses may stress/out-compete the Otos. Any thoughts?
This tank by the way, I have planned to try to get as many species breeding as possible, and as such is heavily planted, with heaps of hiding spots and caves and plenty of driftwood with plenty of Java Moss and algae.
Ill try to get some pics as well
