I like it. may not need to build it yourself tho.
a standard 33 long is ~ 48 wide, 13 high, 13 wide. That sounds like a good size.

I've contacted them for a quote. We'll see. I almost certainly don't have the money right now, whether I build or buy.

I love the idea, even though I'd never put that much water anywhere near my computer! *shivers at the thought*
Looks like you estimated the weight of the water, but you need to include the weight of the tank and substrate. Here's a chart with glass tank sizes/weights ... and here's one for the weights of other substances, including sand and gravel, by cubic foot, which should help.
Using those tables, I estimate that my 20g long weighs 325-350 lbs. I was pretty shocked at that total, as I'd previously been told aquariums weigh about 10lbs/gallon on average. If I could figure out how to discount exactly how much water is displaced by the DSB, I'd get closer to a real figure, but I think estimating the heaviest weight is the way to go when planning.

I have 4 tanks in my office...over 250 gallons of water. I know, it's crazy, but I so enjoy work more. I can look up in any direction and see one of my tanks. It's a great idea, and I love the size of the tank, especially if it's planted. Hoping this thread keeps going and you update it often! Good Luck!
Oh, no---I have absolutely no interested in going salty! Thanks for the warning about glasscages. I'll be sure to do my research if I end up buying as opposed to building. I contacted another company for a quote as well---just trying to get an idea of what it would cost.
The computer I use at work is actually my computer, so it comes home with me at night. It would never be there unattended.
You're absolutely right about the glass and the substrate and such. Thank you for the links. I still think it would be okay, but I'll try to test it somehow. I just have to convince a few of my co-workers to come stand on my desk.

As soon as I get around to finding my camera (what can I say, kids, they lose everything!) I'll make sure to post some. My tanks are all planted, all newly set up (w/in the past 6 mths - just got out of a 6 yr salty stint) and two are awaiting fish (cpd's and rainbows). I've been cruising the planted sites for over a year. I found AC again, love this site. Even tho I'm going thru a planted stint, my fish are still the most important to me. I've been mulling around with a long shallow tank. I'm hoping you set one up for me...lol....
I have a 4ft 75g on an old wood industrial desk, holds it fine. I like the idea of a 33g long. See if your LFS can order it for you, save on shipping & 4 ft is easier to light.
